The Problem

We have made little progress in treating brain diseases, with the primary culprit being the blood-brain barrier that 1) blocks drugs from getting into the brain and 2) blocks diagnostic biomarkers, stopping measurement through a blood test.

The Impact

Brain cancers, Alzheimer's Parkinson's, and Epilepsy affect ~10M US patients, each year and growing rapidly.

Our Vision

We are developing a non-invasive medical device that reversibly opens the blood-brain barrier precisely where it is needed, which will usher in a new wave of diagnostic & therapeutic opportunities for patients.

What is the Blood Brain Barrier

and its relevance to therapy

The blood-brain barrier (BBB) protects the brain from toxins and infectious agents by tightly regulating the passage of chemicals between the circulatory system and the brain. Not only does the BBB prevent most molecules from interacting with brain tissue, but the BBB prevents systemic drugs that could otherwise be effective from reaching the brain.

Improved Non-invasive Access

Our NeuroAccess™ system is designated to support precision medicine by reversibly opening the blood-brain barrier, enabling targeted drug delivery and blood-based measurement of circulating biomarkers for diagnosing and monitoring brain diseases. We plan to develop applications for patients with brain cancers, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and epilepsy. The device is designed to target precise locations within the diseased brain regions, utilizing low-frequency focused ultrasound and micro-bubbles to mechanically open the BBB.

Our technology is based on several allowed and pending patents. The device technology is based on focused ultrasound technology, which has been researched by multiple researchers worldwide. Our ongoing R&D, clinical and regulatory efforts are to enable the availability of the focused ultrasound technology in a patient-friendly and non-invasive manner.

Clinical safety and benefit still need to be established.
